Google pairs with Warby Parker for AI-enabled, smart glasses

Easy to miss the torrent of AI news at Google I/O was a demo of their upcoming AI-powered smart glasses, expected «after 2025.»

The glasses pair with Gemini on your phone, has an in-lens display, camera, ear buds and microphones and can show you your Android apps.

More importantly, though, is the integration with the AI. The glasses become Gemini’s eyes and ears and will see all you see and listen to conversations around you.

Context aware Gemini, right on your face
That means you can get access to step-by-step navigation right in your glasses, and it also means you can access information on your surroundings. You can even ask Gemini to provide you with instant translations of your conversations.

Google is already partnering with the likes of Samsung to make smart headset based on Android XR, with its Gemini and AR capabilities.

Partnering with Warby Parker
As with Meta and their Ray-Ban glasses, Google isn’t going it alone. They have paired up with the US optical powerhouse Warby Parker to make sure the glasses are stylish enough to want to wear, coming sometime «after 2025.»

As part of this collaboration, Google has committed $75 million to Warby Parker for the development and commercialization of the glasses, and says it will now invest a further $75 million to acquire an equity stake in the glasses manufacturer.
