OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra, going further and faster with less

Faster, cheaper, strong enough and good for bulk tasks. (Picture: OpenAI/manipulated)
The Terra models of ChatGPT are made to be the cheaper, faster models with computer use that is almost faster than a human, and this iteration even comes close to Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra in some tests.

Compared to GPT-5.6 Terra, the 6.1 model scores 15% higher at about one-third of the cost, and in medium effort it compares with GPT-6 Astra in Agent’s Last Exam for one-tenth of the cost. It is also three times faster.

The new model continues OpenAI’s efforts to bring down hallucinations, resulting in a drop of factual errors from 53% for GPT-5.6 to 16.7% for 6.1 Terra — a reduction of some 37 points.

OpenAI also says that GPT-6.1 Terra gives you substantially more tokens and usage than using GPT-6 Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol, meaning that you can cover more tasks, faster.

GPT-6.1 Terra is available today in ChatGPT Work and Cocex across paid tiers and in the API. The price is set to $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output.
