OpenAI launches ChatGPT Go in India, a shortened paid tier for ~$5/month

ChatGPT Go is less than $5 per month, and offers 10x better service than the free tier
ChatGPT Go could expand to other markets based on feedback on the service.
There are one billion internet users in India, but it is very price sensitive — and the second biggest market for ChatGPT.

The new plan offers greater access to GPT models, and expands on the free tier for just a little more cash.

ChatGPT Go has ten times more messages, ten times more image generations and ten times more file uploads compared to free usage.

It’s also more responsive, and comes with twice the memory size for just Rs. 399 ($4.57) per month.

Aiming to expand
Nick Turley of OpenAI also adds that making «ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users,» and says they are rolling out in India as a first step.

They will then learn from feedback before expanding to other countries, he says — so there is a plan to go further with this subscription.

Already, the Airtel carrier, the second largest telco in India are offering Perplexity Pro for free to all its 360 million customers, which offers Plus-level access to ChatGPT models.

Google is also offering Gemini Pro to all students, also in India.
