OpenAI launches video generator Sora 2 as a social app with «cameos»

OpenAI’s Sora 2 introduction sure looks impressive.

The idea is that people can use the latest and greatest video generation tool to insert themselves in scenes along with their friends — with so-called «cameos.»

The new video model should be significantly better at adhering to physics, and could be a «ChatGPT-3.5-moment for video,» OpenAI says.

10-second clips
Sora 2 will generate 10-second clips from prompts or pictures, but OpenAI doesn’t say anything about resolution or whether it supports vertical video for apps like TikTok.

The generated scenes can then be used to insert your likeness into them, so you could be speaking from Mount Everest or the depths of the sea.

OpenAI is looking to create their own invite-only social network based on such «cameos,» open to users in the USA and Canada, with their app or on sora.com.

The app comes with some restrictions, especially for teens — and there is also a thorough identity check to see if you are really the one being inserted into a video.

Maintaining control of likeness
From there, you should be able to maintain control over how that video is used, and they promise that «only you decide who can use your cameo, and you can revoke access or remove any video that includes it at any time.»

According to Axios, users will be notified when a video using their likeness is made, and will have the option to approve or delete the file.

Also for public figures
This includes celebrities and anyone else, writes The Verge. You are in control of your likeness, and public figures would have to upload a «cameo» of themselves and then approve its use.

It is also «impossible» to generate X-rated of «extreme» content using the platform.

The app will be free to use with «generous limits» to start it off, but OpenAI keeps the door open to charging for it at a later stage, due to «compute constraints.»
