One ML engineer on reddit said it tore through a 5 page research paper while comparing it to a whitepaper with 174 subagents to review the results from 7 original agents and «ate through my max 20x 5 hour limit in ~15 minutes.»
X reactions
User BridgeMind on X said he paid $321 for Opus 4.8 to do all the work, while X user Adam Door posted that it burned through his $200 Max subscription in ~30 minutes, and yet another post says «Fable 5 burned 28% of my weekly limit AND used up my 5 hour limit with two prompts in about 30 minutes.»
Many others are also posting screenshots of hitting their limits in a short time.
Reset limits and a stiff price
This has prompted the Anthropic to reset everyone’s 5-hour and weekly limits on the same day Fable 5 relaunched.
Fable 5 costs $10 per million input tokens and $50 for a million output ones, double the cost of Claude Opus 4.8 — but spinning up subagents will increase the cost dramatically.
There are also some helpful posts and tips out there, saying mostly that Fable is the conductor, and to use other models for the grunt work.
Access to Fable 5 is included in all paid tiers through July 7, for up to 50% of your current token allocation. After that, you will have to purchase usage credits.
