Impressive growth
That signals an exponential growth from around 10 million monthly active users from late last year, reports Ars Technica.
It also shows the reach that’s been possible by defaulting to Gemini over Assistant on Android phones and the strength of offering 2.5 Pro to free users just a short while ago. Gemini is also the default assistant on Galaxy phones
How do others stack up?
This number is dwarfed by the constant onslaught of ChatGPT’s traffic, though, which Google estimates at 600 million monthly active users, writes TechCrunch.
OpenAI CEO Sam Atlman recently said that Chatgpt had 800 million users, or «ten per cent of the world,» surpassing even Googles estimates.
Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta said in September that their AI products had 500 million monthly users, also via TechCrunch.
Big, big numbers on aggregate
This adds up to around 1,65 billion active users across the AI platforms — meaning that AI has caught the attention of large parts of the world. Although there might be some overlap between services.
The Google numbers were revealed at the company’s ongoing antitrust remedies trial.
